Chiefs DB Chris Roland-Wallace emerges as a potential starter

The injury-riddled Kansas City Chiefs secondary was a significant reason for the disappointing 2025 season. A standout of the season was second-year defensive back Chris Roland-Wallace, who also had his season cut short by injury.

Roland-Wallace had a breakout game in Week 3 against the New York Giants, receiving an impressive PFF grade of 91.4. It was the highest among his teammates as he helped Kansas City secure its first victory of the season.

"C-Ro (Chris Roland-Wallace) is kind of taking on that same role that Chamarri (Conner) has done for us." said defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo during training camp, "The interesting thing, if I go back to last year, I think we had him (Chris Roland-Wallace) at safety out of need last year and found out he could do those things, and then eventually he evolved (to) becoming a nickel. You've been here the whole time. He's made a lot of plays. We look for production in our guys.

Roland-Wallace was placed on injured reserve due to a back injury in early December, halting a promising individual campaign. He began the season as one of Kansas City's backup defensive backs, tallying one interception, three pass deflections, and 34 combined tackles across 11 appearances and two starts.
