Christian Scott Claims First MLB Victory as Mets Defeat Marlins 6-1

NEW YORK (AP) — Christian Scott celebrated his first major league victory on Saturday, aided by Hayden Senger's inaugural home run, as the New York Mets triumphed over the Miami Marlins with a score of 6-1. Scott's day started on a rough note when he was penalized for a pitch clock violation before even delivering his opening pitch, yet he ultimately allowed just one run and struck out a career-high eight batters, breaking a winless streak that extended over 15 starts dating back to his debut on May 4, 2024.

This victory marked a significant milestone for Scott (1-0), who had previously undergone Tommy John surgery in September 2024 and missed the entire last season. His streak of 15 start without a win was the second-longest for a pitcher beginning his career solely as a starter, surpassing only Liam Hendriks' 17-start winless record from 2011-12.

The 27-year-old right-hander has maintained a remarkable consistency, allowing four runs or fewer in all 16 of his career starts, setting a new franchise benchmark. The Mets' bullpen contributed to the win, with four relievers each throwing a scoreless inning, securing the team's third consecutive victory—just one shy of their season-high.

Mark Vientos broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a two-run double off Tyler Phillips (0-1), followed by an RBI single from Marcus Semien. Jared Young hit a home run to start the sixth inning, and Senger, drafted by the Mets in 2018, added a solo shot in the seventh. Shortly after, Juan Soto contributed with an RBI single. For the Marlins, Liam Hicks recorded three singles, including a run-scoring hit in the fifth inning.

Phillips (0-1) faced challenges during his second start of the season, yielding three runs while striking out two in five innings of work.

Looking ahead, the Marlins will have right-hander Janson Junk (3-5, 4.80 ERA) on the mound against Mets right-hander Nolan McLean (2-4, 4.40 ERA) in the series finale on Sunday.
