Citron's Last-Second Jumper Secures Mystics' Narrow Victory Over Tempo

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a thrilling finish, Sonia Citron netted the decisive jumper just as the clock expired, leading the Washington Mystics to an 86-85 victory against the Toronto Tempo on Friday night. Rookie Lauren Betts shone with a career-high 18 points, making an impressive 8 of 9 shots in 21 minutes of play, filling in for the injured Kiki Iriafen.

Citron contributed 17 points to the Mystics’ win, while Michaela Onyenwere matched her scoring output with another 17 points. Shakira Austin also made her mark with a double-double, recording 12 points and 11 rebounds, despite struggling with a career-high nine turnovers, which were the most in a single WNBA game this season. Washington's performance was marred by a total of 22 turnovers and a disappointing 11.1% from beyond the arc, converting only 2 of 18 attempts.

For the Tempo, Marina Mabrey was a standout, scoring 18 of her 27 points in the final quarter, while Brittney Sykes contributed 20 points. The game showcased intense competition as both teams fought for victory.

In another matchup, the Golden State Valkyries edged out the Seattle Storm 76-72 in Seattle. Janelle Salaun led the Valkyries with 22 points, including five three-pointers, while Gabby Williams added 19 points against her former team. Despite a late surge from Seattle, which saw them close the gap to just one point, Golden State held on for the win.

Natisha Hiedeman emerged as a bright spot for Seattle, scoring a career-best 26 points, but the loss marked the team’s eighth consecutive defeat this season.
