Cortes and Butler Propel A's to Comeback Victory Over Brewers

LAS VEGAS (AP) — In a thrilling seventh inning, Carlos Cortes and Lawrence Butler launched impressive home runs, leading the Oakland Athletics to a 4-3 comeback win against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night, securing the series victory. This match took place at Las Vegas Ballpark, where the A's are playing ahead of their anticipated move to a new stadium on the Strip in 2028.

The Athletics had already made history by hitting 12 home runs in the series, and they added three more in this game. Alika Williams contributed with his first Major League home run, a solo shot in the sixth inning, bringing the A's within striking distance.

Cortes then electrified the crowd with a 461-foot solo homer to right-center field in the seventh. Just two batters later, Butler followed suit with a two-run blast that soared 463 feet to center, both off Brewers pitcher Chad Patrick (3-3). Meanwhile, the A's bullpen shined, as five relievers combined to keep the Brewers scoreless for the final five innings, with Scott Barlow (2-0) earning the win and Elvis Alvarado notching his first career save.

Milwaukee's Brandon Sproat pitched effectively, allowing just four hits and one run over six innings, leaving the game with a 3-1 lead. The Brewers initially surged ahead with a 466-foot solo home run from Gary Sanchez in the second inning and another homer from Jackson Chourio, establishing a 3-0 advantage.

Notably, Nick Kurtz's streak of homering in three consecutive games came to an end, while Zack Gelof pushed his hitting streak to 15 games. A's designated hitter Brent Rooker missed his second consecutive game due to knee soreness, prompting Manager Mark Kotsay to mention that further evaluations would take place during the team's off day on Thursday.

Next up, the Brewers will have right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (7-2, 1.50 ERA) on the mound against the Philadelphia Phillies at home on Friday, while the Athletics have yet to announce their starter for the upcoming game against the Colorado Rockies.
