Cretin-Derham Hall and Stillwater Secure Spots in State Lacrosse Tournament

The girls lacrosse teams from Cretin-Derham Hall and Stillwater are gearing up for the state tournament after both secured their spots with impressive wins in the section playoffs. This marks Cretin-Derham Hall's fifth appearance in the tournament and their first since 2014, while Stillwater aims to capture its first championship title despite their history of reaching the state level.

In their section final, Cretin-Derham Hall, the top seed in Section 3, dominated the game against second-seeded Park, finishing with an 11-4 victory at their home field. The Raiders established an early lead, scoring four goals in the first quarter. Park, last year's section champion, was unable to keep pace with their opponents.

Meanwhile, Stillwater triumphed in Section 4 with a 6-4 win over White Bear Lake, marking their fifth consecutive trip to the state tournament. As the top seed in this matchup, the Ponies are looking to improve upon their runner-up finish from the previous year, having made their 14th state tournament appearance overall. Remarkably, they have only missed the tournament twice since 2011.

Other teams advancing to the state tournament include Wayzata, which secured an 11-5 victory against Maple Grove in Section 5, and Edina, who edged Prior Lake 11-10 in Section 6. They join Lakeville South and Minnetonka, both of whom won their matches on Tuesday. The state tournament kicks off on June 9 at White Bear Lake High School, as teams from around the state compete for the championship.
