Cristian Chivu Extends Contract with Inter Milan Until 2028
Inter Milan has officially confirmed that head coach Cristian Chivu has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm until the summer of 2028. This decision comes on the heels of a stellar first full season in charge, during which Chivu led the team to a double victory in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Having spent the last seven years of his playing career with Inter, Chivu transitioned into coaching roles at various youth levels before taking over as head coach at Parma. Following the departure of Simone Inzaghi at the end of the 2024-25 season, he returned to Inter and quickly made an impact, securing both the Coppa Italia and the Serie A title in the 2025-26 season. His previous contract was set to expire in 2027.
In their official statement, Inter Milan expressed their excitement about Chivu’s renewed commitment, stating, “FC Internazionale Milano is delighted to confirm the contract extension of head coach Cristian Chivu.” The club emphasized Chivu’s deep connection to Inter, noting his journey filled with dedication and pivotal moments.
Chivu’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements, including being named Serie A Coach of the Season for 2025/26. His approach has emphasized pride, loyalty, and a strong sense of teamwork, allowing players to shine individually while maintaining a cohesive unit. Notably, he has shown humility by letting players take center stage during celebrations.
Beyond the trophies, Chivu has made history as the fifth Inter coach to win Serie A in his debut season, joining an elite group that includes legends like José Mourinho. He is also recognized for his unique position of having won the Scudetto both as a player and a coach, further solidifying his legacy within the club.
