Welcome to another edition of BCB After Dark, the go-to hangout for night owls, early risers, new parents, and dedicated Cubs supporters. We’re excited to have you here—there’s no entry fee, just a friendly atmosphere and good conversation waiting for you.
In a recent discussion, I posed a question about whether Major League Baseball faces issues with competitive balance. The results were nearly split, with 53% of participants believing improvements are necessary for smaller market teams, while the remaining 47% felt the current state of affairs is acceptable.
Shifting gears from baseball, I also shared thoughts on the legendary jazz musician Sonny Rollins, whose contributions to music are profound. Rollins, born in Harlem in 1930, left an indelible mark on jazz with masterpieces like "St. Thomas," which fuses calypso rhythms with bebop. He stood out as a creative force, even after overcoming personal challenges, and his influence continues to resonate.
As we transition into June, the Cubs hope to bounce back from a challenging May, where they posted a 13-16 record, including a ten-game losing streak. However, the upcoming schedule presents a promising opportunity for the team to regain their footing. They will face a series of matchups against teams like the Athletics, Giants, and Rockies, all of whom are struggling this season.
With a total of 27 games lined up, fans are curious about what constitutes a successful month. A winning record is essential; going 14-13 would not meet expectations, and the bar for success is likely set higher. Could a 17-10 record be enough? Or perhaps they need to aim for 20 wins? The Cubs have a chance to make a statement this month, and fans are eager to see how it unfolds.
Thanks for joining us tonight. We appreciate your company and wish you safe travels home. Remember to take care of your belongings, and we look forward to welcoming you back tomorrow for more discussions at BCB After Dark.
