Daniel Jones Provides Update on Injury Recovery at Colts Minicamp
Before the minicamp practice on Tuesday, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones engaged with local reporters to share insights regarding his ongoing recovery from injury. During the initial week of organized team activities (OTAs), Jones participated in individual drills, marking the beginning of his comeback. Progressing into the following week, he was able to join in on 7-on-7 drills, showing further improvement.
This week, Jones is set to continue participating in 7-on-7 sessions, although he is not yet cleared for 11-on-11 drills. He confirmed that he inquired about the possibility of joining those practices. “I think I’m closer," Jones reflected on his recovery process. "I think there’s still work to be done. I wouldn’t say I’m all the way there at this point. I feel good about where I am and where the rehab's taken me to this point, but there is still work to do. Still gotta make some progress, but I feel like I'm in a good spot."
While offseason activities do not involve contact, the 11-on-11 drills could present risks, such as being hit while in the pocket. In contrast, the 7-on-7 format allows him to avoid extending plays unnecessarily. Colts head coach Shane Steichen emphasized the team's cautious approach, stating they want to be "super smart" in managing Jones' injury.
As he continues his rehabilitation, Jones is focused on regaining strength in his calf, with various assessments tracking his progress compared to his other leg. He is also monitoring his performance in plyometric exercises and his overall movement. Previously, Jones expressed confidence in his readiness for Week 1, but he acknowledged there remains work ahead. "I know he'll work tirelessly this summer to be ready for training camp," added Steichen.
