Dayton Flyers Set to Face Loyola Maryland in December Basketball Matchup

The Dayton Flyers men's basketball team is scheduled to host Loyola University Maryland on December 2 at UD Arena, as reported by college basketball analyst Rocco Miller on June 5. The Flyers currently hold a perfect 3-0 record against Loyola in their previous encounters, with the last meeting dating back to December 22, 2007, when Dayton triumphed 91-74 at home. The rivalry began in the early 1950s with games played in 1950 and 1951.

Loyola had a challenging season last year, finishing with a record of 12-20 and an 8-10 mark in the Patriot League. The team has faced struggles in recent years, enduring 13 consecutive losing seasons. Their last NCAA tournament appearance was in 2012, where they were eliminated by Ohio State with a score of 79-58 in the opening round.

Dayton's most recent matchup against a Patriot League team was in December 2024, where they secured a victory over Lehigh, winning 86-62 at UD Arena. The Flyers have won their last seven games against Patriot League opponents since their last defeat to Fordham, which was part of the league back in 1991.

This matchup against Loyola marks the sixth confirmed game on Dayton's schedule. So far, other announced games include an exhibition against Notre Dame on October 17, a home game against the New Jersey Institute of Technology on November 2, a rivalry game against Cincinnati on November 14, and a matchup against Memphis in Chicago on November 29, followed by a game against South Florida at UD Arena on December 12. Additionally, Dayton will compete in road games at Liberty and Florida State, as well as two matches at the Charleston Classic, though the dates for those contests have yet to be revealed.
