Denison Baseball Secures Spot in DIII World Series Championship
Denison University's baseball team has made a remarkable leap into the championship round of the Division III College World Series, defeating eighth-seeded East Texas Baptist 11-7 on June 1 in Eastlake, Ohio. The top-seeded Big Red, boasting an impressive record of 49-2, will now prepare to face either sixth-seeded Endicott or seventh-seeded Adrian in a best-of-three title showdown starting at 11 a.m. on June 3.
In the crucial victory, Erik Sundgren and Cade Nowik each shone with two hits, including a home run, contributing significantly to the team's success. Kelly Crittenberger also played a vital role, driving in three runs during the game. Denison relied on a trio of pitchers, with Will Rettig delivering a solid six innings, giving up just one run on three hits. Max Mullen added two innings of relief, followed by Ryan Paganelis, who closed out the game with a scoreless inning.
Despite falling behind 7-3 after six innings, Denison rallied spectacularly, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning to turn the tide. Both Nowik and Sundgren launched two-run homers in this explosive inning, sealing the victory for the Big Red.
