Diamondbacks' Manager Stands by Ketel Marte Amid Clubhouse Concerns

The Arizona Diamondbacks are rallying behind Ketel Marte, with manager Torey Lovullo offering a strong defense of the star player following recent reports of discontent within the team. Lovullo spoke out on Tuesday, refuting claims that Marte’s absences have been causing tension in the clubhouse. A report by Bob Nightengale of USA Today suggested that Marte has been “frustrating segments of the organization by opting to take days off.”

Lovullo firmly dismissed these allegations, asserting, “I can wholeheartedly tell you that Ketel has been an unbelievable player for the Arizona Diamondbacks for a long period of time.” He explained that Marte’s days off are planned and involve his input, emphasizing that “when the athlete gives us input, we're going to listen.” The manager also addressed concerns about Marte’s reputation as a teammate, stating, “that’s not true at all,” and insisted that such rumors are unfounded.

Currently in his tenth season with the Diamondbacks, Marte boasts a batting average of .249, along with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs. In a recent game against the Miami Marlins, he contributed significantly, recording three hits and three RBIs despite the team’s 10-6 loss, which left their season record at 34-32. This year, Marte has only missed four games; however, he faced criticism last season after missing three games due to personal issues, which led to an apology to the team.

Lovullo is keen on quelling any negativity surrounding Marte this season, stating, “He’s going to help us win baseball games. He's going to help us get to where we want to.” With the season still in progress, the focus remains on maintaining a positive team dynamic and harnessing Marte’s talent on the field.
