Dodgers Fall to Diamondbacks in Series Opener Despite Sheehan's Solid Start

The Los Angeles Dodgers faced a tough defeat in the opening game of their four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, losing 4-1 in a tightly contested pitching match. Emmet Sheehan took the mound for the Dodgers, delivering an impressive performance over 6.1 innings, where he allowed just three hits. Unfortunately for Sheehan, two of those hits left the park, leading to his loss, despite recording three strikeouts during the evening.

The Dodgers had a promising opportunity early in the game during the second inning. With runners on first and second and no outs, they aimed to capitalize but could not convert. Although they loaded the bases later in the inning thanks to an infield single from Miguel Rojas, Alex Call was unable to bring any runs home.

In the following frame, the Dodgers finally broke through when Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages hit consecutive doubles. Although Ohtani did not score on Pages’ double, Freddie Freeman managed to bring him in with a groundout. However, the game shifted momentum in the sixth inning when Tommy Troy tied the score with a solo home run.

The Diamondbacks took control in the seventh, with Nolan Arenado hitting another solo homer, marking the end of Sheehan's night. The game was effectively sealed in the eighth inning when Ketel Marte launched a two-run shot, pushing the Diamondbacks ahead. The Dodgers struggled to respond, and closer Paul Sewald secured his 15th save of the season.

With this loss, the Dodgers' record falls to 38-22, reducing their lead in the division to five games. The San Diego Padres remain their closest competitors, while the Diamondbacks are now 5.5 games back, with three more chances to challenge the Dodgers. The team will look to bounce back with Eric Lauer taking the mound in the next game.
