Dolan Shares Insights on Trusting Management in Knicks' Operations

In a recent discussion about his management style, James Dolan revealed his straightforward approach to running his businesses, including the New York Knicks. “My ideal operation, like a lot of my other businesses, it’s the same thing: Give me a plan, let’s put together a plan, let’s follow the plan, and I’ll support the plan,” Dolan stated. He emphasized the importance of a solid strategy, saying that if management ever deviates from the plan, they should return to him for a discussion.

Dolan noted that Leon Rose, the Knicks' president, has consistently communicated his strategies ahead of time. “Once Leon came, he told me in advance what he was going to do and I’d always ask, what can I do to help you? You plan it. I’ll fund it,” Dolan remarked, highlighting a collaborative relationship. He mentioned that while he often agreed with Rose's proposals, there were times he needed convincing, expressing, “Mostly, I was always somewhere in the middle.”

This trust in his general manager has proven to be pivotal for the team’s progress. Dolan's willingness to back a qualified leader has played a significant role in shaping the Knicks' current direction.
