Eastview Dominates East Ridge in Volleyball Quarterfinals
Eastview continues its impressive run in the state volleyball tournament, showcasing their prowess as the top seed. In the quarterfinals on Tuesday, the Lightning overwhelmed eighth-seeded East Ridge, securing a decisive victory with scores of 25-16, 25-11, and 25-14.
The Lightning, who remain unbeaten at 32-0, will advance to face fourth-seeded St. Michael-Albertville in the semifinals scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m. in St. Paul. St. Michael-Albertville earned their spot by defeating fifth-seeded Spring Lake Park in their quarterfinal match.
Last year, Eastview's journey was halted in the semifinals by Rogers, but they are determined to go further this time. In the quarterfinals, three out of four matches concluded in straight sets, with only Johnson falling to Wayzata in four sets.
Leading the charge for Eastview was Jay Thammavongsa, who recorded 11 kills. Brice Dehnel added 18 assists to the team's effort. Eastview's efficiency was evident as they amassed 33 digs and achieved 13 service aces against just nine errors, highlighting the strength of their performance.
For East Ridge, who made their inaugural appearance in the state tournament, Nathan Hegemann stood out with seven digs and shared the team lead in kills, contributing five. Despite the loss, the Raptors celebrated a successful season.
