Eau Claire Memorial's Lydia Paulmier Named L-T Prep Athlete of the Week
Lydia Paulmier, a senior captain for the Eau Claire Memorial girls soccer team, has been recognized as the High School Athlete of the Week by the Leader-Telegram for her outstanding contributions to the sport. As a key player on a team that has consistently performed well, Paulmier has played a pivotal leadership role this season, continuing her success as the team aims for a strong finish.
Returning as the leading goal scorer from the 2025 squad that fell just one victory short of the state tournament, Paulmier has not only showcased her soccer skills but has also excelled in basketball, serving as a starting guard for the Old Abes. In a recent interview, she shared insights about her experiences in sports. When asked about her favorite sport aside from soccer, she said, "Definitely basketball as I have played it just as long as I have played soccer."
Reflecting on valuable lessons learned from her coaching experiences, Paulmier emphasized the importance of maintaining a forward-thinking mindset: "Having the next play mentality. No one cares about the mistake you just made, so don’t waste your time suffering over it. Go make the next play and win the ball back for your team." This perspective has undoubtedly contributed to her leadership on the field.
Paulmier also recounted her favorite moment in sports, which was participating in the USA Cup alongside her friends and father as coach. She humorously reflected on an embarrassing moment when she accidentally collided with another player, leading to her receiving a yellow card instead of the support she thought she was getting from the referee.
Outside of athletics, Paulmier enjoys psychology, stating, "I find it super interesting to know the 'why' in the way we live and behave." With aspirations of living in Costa Rica and becoming an accomplished surfer, she dreams of a future filled with adventure and personal growth.
Her journey in sports and life is marked by resilience and ambition, as she looks forward to owning her own business and living in the southern United States in 25 years. Paulmier’s determination and positive outlook make her a remarkable athlete and an inspiring role model.
