Elkhart County Miracle to Skip Summer Season Amid Stadium Contract Issues
ELKHART — The Elkhart County Miracle, the local minor league baseball team, will not be participating in the upcoming summer season. The organization has decided to pause its activities following the late cancellation of a stadium contract between the Northern League and the city of Whiting, where they had hoped to continue their operations.
Craig Wallin, the founder of the Miracle, stated in a press release, “The Northern League notified us a short time ago that their stadium lease arrangement with the city of Whiting has not been renewed despite 15 years of playing there.” This unexpected development has left the reigning champions, the Northwest Indiana Oilmen, searching for a new home after more than a decade at Oil City Stadium.
In light of this situation, the Oilmen are currently assessing potential new locations for the 2027 season, but for now, they have opted to suspend their operations for the summer. The Northern League currently comprises four teams in northern Indiana, with the Miracle being the only representative from Elkhart County, while the other teams—the Oilmen, Griffith Generals, and Southland Vikings—are based in northwest Indiana.
Since the Miracle's inaugural season in 2023, the league has faced a decline in membership. Despite this setback, Wallin expressed hope, indicating that the Elkhart County team plans to return to play next season or possibly even sooner. The Miracle claimed the Northern League title in 2024 and made a championship appearance in 2025, only to be defeated by the Oilmen.
