Kentucky Basketball Eyes Nikola Kusturica as Potential Recruit
Kentucky Basketball is reportedly close to securing an impressive addition to its roster for the 2026-27 season. The Wildcats are currently pursuing Nikola Kusturica, a 6-foot-9 wing from Serbia who has already garnered attention from NBA scouts. Although Gonzaga was initially considered the frontrunner for Kusturica's commitment due to their pressing needs and longer recruitment timeline, recent developments suggest a shift in momentum.
According to Travis Branham of 247 Sports, he has made a prediction favoring Kentucky to land Kusturica, assigning a confidence level of 7 to this forecast. If successful, this would mark a significant recruitment victory for head coach Mark Pope, especially following a challenging start to the offseason.
During the 2025 FIBA U16 EuroBasket Tournament, Kusturica showcased his talents by averaging 20 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 49.5% from the field and 30.8% from beyond the arc. His standout performance earned him the tournament's MVP title, and he is now projected to be a top lottery pick in the 2028 NBA Draft. Currently, NBA Draft Room has him slated to be picked second overall, underscoring his high potential.
As Kusturica is only 17 and must play two years of college basketball, he has the potential to develop into a star player before making the leap to the NBA. With Kentucky in the mix, fans are eager to see if he will choose to don the Wildcats' colors.
