England vs India live win probability, prediction, odds & chances of victory in 1st ODI at Edgbaston
India travel to Edgbaston for the opening ODI against England on Tuesday, still carrying the sting of a complete 4-0 defeat in the preceding T20I series.
It was a result that also cost them their world number one ranking in the format.
Since July 2024, India have struggled in the 50-over format too, losing three of their last six bilateral ODI series, including away defeats to Sri Lanka and Australia, along with a home series loss to New Zealand.
Yet this particular series marks the beginning of a cycle, given the ODI World Cup in South Africa is now just 15 months away.
Unlike the T20I setup, India's ODI squad boasts considerable experience and firepower. Virat Kohli makes his return to the side, Jasprit Bumrah is back to lead the bowling attack, while Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill round out what looks like a genuinely formidable batting lineup on paper.
England, meanwhile, arrive on the back of renewed confidence following their dominant T20I showing, where Harry Brook's aggressive batting philosophy set the tone and Jofra Archer's pace repeatedly troubled India's batters.
Still, their recent form in the 50-over format tells a different story. Since 2024, England have lost five of their seven bilateral ODI series and endured a winless campaign at last year's Champions Trophy.

After 40 Overs, India are 223/4
The duo of Axar Patel and Washington Sundar continue to bleed the English bowlers for more runs. The partnership is inching towards 50 runs while Patel looks to score his own half-century. Archer and Tongue remain lethal on the crease, but the two men see that the target is just 30 runs away now.
After 30 Overs, India are 162/4
England seems to be getting some momentum back after Harry Brook successfully gets Iyer run out. KL Rahul soon came to build a new partnership with Sundar on the other end, but a quick delivery from Tongue soon gets the wicketkeeper back to the pavilion. It seems unlikely that Gill (80) will return for the duration of the innings.
After 20 Overs, India are 110/2
Gill and Iyer continue to ground India's innings as the Indian captain scores a wonderful half-century while Iyer continues to inch towards his own milestone. England continues to go hard on the partnership, but they keep leaking boundaries.
After 10 Overs, India are 56/2
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were quickly dismissed within the first 10 overs as Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer continue to lead India towards the target.
After 47.5 Overs, England are 258/10
Axar Patel quickly scalps four wickets, taking the wickets of Liam Dawson (68) and Jofra Archer (12) before dismissing Adil Rashid and Josh Tongue in the same over to end England's innings at 258 runs. Joe Root remains unbeaten at 76 off 76, but the runs came too late. India looks ahead to a comfortable victory.
After 40 Overs, England are 203/6
Liam Dawson hits a brilliant half-century, 56*(71), to help England cross the 200-run mark in the 40th over. Joe Root continues to hold his ground on the other side as boundaries are finally starting to leak from the Indian bowlers. The partnership will hope to steer England towards a 250+ score if they want to win this game.
After 30 Overs, England are 143/6
India continues to press on England as Will Jacks gets dismissed by Shivam Dube, leaving Root as the only person who can now steer England towards a respectable total. Liam Dawson continues to be Root's relief as he manages to rotate the strike and keep India from overwhelming the duo.
After 20 overs, England are 98/5
Despite finishing the first 10 overs without a loss, a flurry of quick wickets left the English side crumbling. Brar and Krishna both took two wickets each while Bumrah dismissed captain Harry Brook.
Joe Root and Will Jacks ground the innings right now as England looks at their most experienced batter to save them.
After 10 overs, England are 51/0
A robust start from the English openers, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell. They have taken Gurnoor Brar to the cleaners as the pacer has conceded 26 runs in his first two overs.
