Ex-49ers 'can't wait to see' this WR-DB matchup in 2026

Former San Francisco 49ers defensive back Donte Whitner is ready for one specific matchup during the 2026 season: 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir versus former 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings.

After being teammates for their entire five careers, the two are now opponents following Jennings's departure from the 49ers, who signed with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason.

On his podcast "The Grit Code," Whitner unloaded on Lenoir after the two reportedly traded barbs following Whitner's public breakdown of a Lenoir coverage gaffe against the Seattle Seahawks last season.

"I can't wait to see Jauan versus Deommodore Lenoir," Whitner said. "Lenoir talked a lot of [expletive] to me after I analyzed him properly and showed he was hiding on that play versus Seattle last year. All the [expletive] you talked to me, I want to see you go four quarters versus the 'Rough House.' I want to see if all that [expletive] you were talking to me, if you really about that action, boss. I'm looking forward to Jauan Jennings giving that 49ers secondary a ride of their lives."

The "Rough House" is Whitner's nickname for Jennings — and the stage for their reunion couldn't be bigger. The 49ers are hosting the Vikings in a Week 11 Sunday Night Football matchup at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City on Nov. 22.

Lenoir enters the matchup as one of the league's better corners. He finished 2025 with 61 tackles and two interceptions across 17 starts. Jennings, meanwhile, was one of the 49ers top receivers over the past two seasons. He had 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine touchdowns this past season after 77 receptions for 975 and six scores in 2024.
