Forks girls hoops star a repeat pick as NYS Class B Player of Year
Chenango Forks girls basketball standout Maggie Warpus has been selected as Class B Player of the Year by the New York State Sports Writers Association for the second consecutive season.
Warpus, a senior, led Forks to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class B championship game. She has committed to play at Oregon State.
Her selection was announced in conjunction with release of the all-state teams for classes B, C, and D. All-state selections in classes AAA, AA, and A were revealed previously.
Warpus averaged 23.4 points and 14.2 rebounds per game this past season. She was a 49% shooter from the field, made 35% of her 143 3-point tries, and connected on 84% of her foul shots. She had 98 steals and 62 blocked shots in 26 games.
She finished with 1,886 career points and 1,215 rebounds.
Warpus was among 23 Section 4 players to receive all-state recognition in classes B, C, D. That list included her teammate, third-team Class B pick Jordyn Ericksen-Hrehor, and first-team Class D selection McKenna Hoyt of Stamford/Jefferson.
