Former Blackhawks Star Dennis Hull Passes Away at 81

The Chicago Blackhawks announced the passing of Dennis Hull on Saturday, May 30, at the age of 81. Hull, a five-time All-Star left winger, was well-known as the brother of legendary player Bobby Hull and scored 298 goals during his time in Chicago.

Hull was a key player for Team Canada during the historic 1972 Summit Series, where they triumphed over the Soviet Union. In a statement, Blackhawks chairman and CEO Danny Wirtz expressed the team's sorrow, remarking, "Dennis enjoyed a distinguished career built on his scoring ability and consistency, leaving lasting contributions not only to the Blackhawks franchise, but to the game itself."

Revered for his skill, tenacity, and sharp intellect on the ice, Dennis Hull was equally cherished off the rink for his humor and warmth. His ability to maintain a light atmosphere in the locker room made him a beloved figure among teammates. "On behalf of the Wirtz family and the entire Blackhawks organization, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Dennis’s family, friends and teammates, and the many fans who adored him," Wirtz added.

His nephew Bart shared the news of Dennis's death on Instagram, although details regarding the cause have yet to be disclosed. Known affectionately as the "Silver Jet," Dennis Hull spent 13 of his 14 NHL seasons with the Blackhawks, having joined the team before the 1964-1965 season after playing with the St. Catharines Black Hawks. He played alongside his brother Bobby for eight seasons, during which the Blackhawks made the playoffs nearly every year, reaching the Stanley Cup Final three times.

In the twilight of his career, Dennis Hull played one final season with the Detroit Red Wings. His legacy in hockey remains significant, both in Chicago and beyond.
