Four-Star Athlete Demare Dezeurn Chooses Cal, Shares Insights on His Decision
Demare Dezeurn, a standout wide receiver from Westlake Village (Calif.) Westlake, has officially committed to the University of California, Berkeley, after initially being an Oklahoma pledge. Following his visit to Cal over the weekend, he decided to switch his commitment and revealed his choice the next day.
“There were a lot of reasons why I chose Cal,” Dezeurn explained. He expressed admiration for the coaching staff, particularly highlighting coach Tosh Lupoi's vision for the program. “You can tell they’re building something special there and that’s exciting for me. Coach Tosh and the rest of the staff are going to turn things around, and it’s going to be fun to be part of that first class to make it happen.”
The involvement of Cal's wide receiver coaches, Ike Hilliard and Geoff McArthur, significantly influenced his decision. “I’m very excited to play and get developed by those guys,” he mentioned, noting Hilliard's NFL experience as a major draw. “Geoff McArthur played at Cal and was an All-American. We have a great relationship and he was big for me. He’s a great guy and a great coach, very technical, so having those guys around, it’s huge for sure.”
On the field, Dezeurn is eager about the offensive scheme and his role within it. “They want me to be a playmaker, use my speed to make explosive plays,” he said. He appreciates the flexibility of being moved around the field while also focusing on developing his receiving skills and route running. He’s even eyeing opportunities to return kicks, which adds to the appeal of joining the Bears.
Moreover, the academic offerings at Cal played a crucial role in his decision. “At Cal, it really is the best of both worlds,” he stated. “It’s great academics and a football program that is going to win and help you get to the next level.” Although the location was not a deciding factor, he mentioned it as an added advantage. “I’m just excited about the opportunities. Cal really felt like home, and I know a lot of the guys coming in, so I’m excited about building something great with our recruiting class.”
