The ACC announced awards for the 2026 baseball season with four NC State players earning recognition. Rett Johnson and Luke Nixon earned 2nd Team All-ACC honors while Ty Head and Sherman Johnson earned 3rd Team honors. Rett Johnson was also named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Former Pack9 member Alex Sosa earned 2nd Team honors for his work this year at Miami.

Rett Johnson (.397/.504/.467, 10 2B, 1 HR, 17.3 BB%, 5.6 K%, 14-16 SB) put together one heck of a freshman year, hitting .414/.514/.466 in 30 ACC games. That .414 batting average was the 3rd best mark across the entire conference in league games, while his 48 hits in ACC games was tied for the 3rd most and his .514 OBP was the 2nd best mark. He also has a 27-game hitting streak going. How that didn’t constitute Freshman of the Year honors is beyond me.

Luke Nixon (.358/.445/.587, 16 2B, 8 HR, 12.0 BB%, 14.9 K%, 11-16 SB) saw a huge productivity jump in his junior season. His bat stayed hot in league play, slashing .344/.424/.574.

NC State’s top 2026 MLB Draft prospect, Ty Head (.288/.460/.554, 8 2B, 13 HR, 22.4 BB%, 9.1 K%, 25-28 SB) was an on-base machine while being a defensive star in centerfield for the Wolfpack. Head hit .291/.444/.456 in ACC games.

Sherman Johnson (.345/.446/.571, 7 2B, 9 HR, 11.7 BB%, 15.6 K%, 11-14 SB) came alive late in conference play and is riding a 15-game hitting streak into the ACC Tournament. In ACC games, Sherman hit .298/.395/.519.

Noticeably absent from the awards is Mikey Ryan (.331/.422/.588, 9 2B, 9 HR, 11.9 BB%, 17.6 K%, 11-13 SB) who hit .377/.437/.623 in 22 ACC games with 21 starts. A late season injury likely robbed Ryan of All-ACC honors, but it doesn’t excuse voters for putting Virginia’s Eric Becker (.270/.374/.494 in 22 ACC games) on the 3rd Team ahead of him.

Likewise, injuries cost Ryan Marohn (6-1, 3.18 ERA, 45.1 IP, 11.9 BB%, 33.5 K%) All-ACC honors. The junior lefty missed the last five weeks of the regular season, but still posted a 4-1 record with a 3.98 ERA over five starts in ACC play, allowing just 19 hits in 31.2 IP with 42 strikeouts.

NC State plays Duke at 9:00am ET Tuesday morning in Charlotte to open the 2026 ACC Tournament.
