FSU Secures Commitment from Linebacker Olrick Johnson III
The Florida State Seminoles acted swiftly to fill the gap left by linebacker Gregory Batson’s decommitment on Wednesday, welcoming three-star linebacker Olrick Johnson III to their 2027 recruiting class the very next day. Johnson shared his commitment via social media, choosing FSU over several competitors, including Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, and NC State.
Johnson’s official visit to FSU on June 5 marked his second trip to Tallahassee since receiving a scholarship offer on March 3. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he holds the position of the No. 1,150 overall player and is recognized as the No. 102 linebacker in the nation. Additionally, he ranks as the No. 130 player from the state of Georgia.
With Johnson's commitment, Florida State now has two linebackers on board for this recruiting cycle, with four-star prospect Jernard Albright being the highest-ranked among them. Despite the loss of Batson, new linebackers coach Ernie Sims effectively filled the vacancy with Johnson, who had an impressive junior season at Harrison High School, recording 100 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and one forced fumble over 11 games.
Johnson's addition brings the total to ten recruits in the FSU 2027 class, with six of those players set to bolster the defensive lineup. The Seminoles' recruiting class is currently ranked 51st overall and 14th within the ACC according to 247Sports.
