Concerns about rain loomed over Tuesday's scheduled game between the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves, with many anticipating a delay before the first pitch. Despite the heavy downpour, the game commenced as planned. However, play was interrupted between the second inning's halves, with the Giants ahead 3-2, as the grounds crew attempted to rectify a soaked infield.
Although the rainfall had mostly subsided, the field conditions necessitated significant efforts from the grounds crew, leading to a lengthy pause. For over an hour, no formal announcement was made regarding the delay, and fans inside the stadium received little information about the situation. Eventually, after approximately 90 minutes, the game was officially called off.
The action will pick up on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. PT, with the Braves poised to continue batting in the bottom of the second inning. This postponement has resulted in a doubleheader, with the second game scheduled for its usual 4:15 p.m. PT start. To accommodate the doubleheader, each team is permitted to add a 27th player to their roster. The Giants are expected to fill this spot with a pitcher capable of covering multiple innings, especially since Adrian Houser will be unavailable following his 28-pitch outing in the first inning on Tuesday. Carson Whisenhunt, who last pitched on Friday, is a likely candidate for the promotion.
As the teams prepare for Wednesday, forecasts indicate that more rain may threaten the day’s games in Atlanta.
