Hornets Eye Nets' Nic Claxton as Potential Trade Target

The Brooklyn Nets are actively looking to enhance their roster following a dismal 2025-26 season that concluded with a record of 20-62. As they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft, where they hold the sixth overall pick, the team may also explore potential trades to reshape their lineup.

According to a report from HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, the Charlotte Hornets are considering a trade for a starting-quality center, with Nic Claxton of the Nets being a notable candidate. Claxton enjoyed a standout season, making him an appealing option for teams seeking to boost their frontcourt. "With Charlotte considering a starting-caliber center upgrade, other centers besides Sabonis are on their radar, including Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton," Scotto stated.

While Scotto did not elaborate on what the Hornets might offer in exchange for Claxton, he mentioned a potential trade framework involving players like Miles Bridges and Josh Green, along with a first-round draft pick that could be sent to the Sacramento Kings for center Domantas Sabonis. Given Claxton's contract, which becomes more affordable as it progresses and with two years remaining worth $44 million, the Nets might be inclined to receive young talent or future draft picks in return.

Claxton, who is 27 years old, averaged 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game last season while maintaining an impressive shooting percentage of 57.1% from the field and 61.6% from the free-throw line. Although he has been a valuable asset for the Nets over the past four seasons, there is uncertainty regarding whether Brooklyn's management, led by general manager Sean Marks, would be willing to move him if the right offer comes along.

As the Nets navigate their rebuilding process, the interest from the Hornets highlights the ongoing discussions within the league that could lead to significant player movements in the near future.
