Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has had a tough go of it lately, as he had not gotten a hit in 38 at-bats, the longest hitless streak in the league this year.

In fact, Raleigh's last hit came on April 27, making it over two whole weeks before he finally broke that streak on Tuesday night.

Raleigh finally collected a single to snap the streak in the seventh inning of Seattle's 7-2 win against the Houston Astros, ending the streak four at-bats short of the franchise record.

Raleigh's hitless streak was no secret in the Mariners' dugout, as Raleigh's teammates even pretended to give Raleigh the ball like he got the first hit of his career.

The 2025 AL MVP runner-up was fully aware of his struggles, and he clearly tried everything to break out of it. What ended up working, though, was a full uniform shower to wash away all of his bad luck.

Here's how Raleigh broke out of his hitless streak on Tuesday night.

How Cal Raleigh used a full uniform shower to end hitless streak

Cal Raleigh was very aware of his hitless streak and was looking for anything to help him turn the tide. His teammate, Logan Gilbert, suggested Raleigh shower in his full uniform after Monday night's game, and the catcher got his long-awaited hit less than 24 hours later.

"Logan gave me some good advice to wash off the bad mojo or juju from the baseball gods," Raleigh said, via ESPN. "So yeah, it worked. He was right, so I got to give him credit where credit's due."

The Mariners made a whole deal out of Raleigh, finally breaking his streak, as there were many cheers that came from the Seattle dugout.

"I was kind of just, like, rolling my eyes because I knew everybody was going to be making a big deal about it," Raleigh added. "But yeah, it felt good to barrel one up."

Cal Raleigh hitless streak

Cal Raleigh's hitless streak officially ended at 0-38, making it the longest hitless streak in the majors this season. That streak spanned over two weeks and eleven games, as he had nine hitless games in between hits on April 27 and May 12.

The longest hitless streak in MLB history still belongs to Chris Davis, who went 0-54 between the 2018 and 2019 seasons. So, while Raleigh's stretch was definitely difficult, he was able to stop short of making MLB history.

Raleigh is just hitting .166 on the year with a .573 OPS, a far drop from his MVP-caliber season last year. However, now that the hitless streak is over, maybe Raleigh can get hot again this summer.
