Jackson West Poised to Choose Between Iowa State and Utah After Recent Visits
Jackson West, a highly regarded two-way lineman from Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, is nearing a decision following a recent visit to Iowa State and an upcoming trip to Utah. Recognized as one of the standout lineman prospects in the western United States, West possesses exceptional length and athleticism, making him a top-tier recruit for both offensive and defensive positions.
Although much of his high school film showcases his capabilities on the offensive line, both the Cyclones and the Utes are pursuing him primarily for a role as a defensive end or edge rusher. During an appearance at the Under Armour Next Camp in Utah, West primarily practiced as an offensive lineman but also demonstrated his skills in one-on-one drills at defensive end, impressing observers with his performance.
Standing at an impressive 6-foot-5 and weighing 245 pounds, West’s physical attributes are remarkable, including an 82-inch wingspan and exceptional athletic testing numbers: a 31-inch vertical jump, 121-inch broad jump, and a 4.54-second shuttle time, all among the best for players over 240 pounds this year. Additionally, he has shown his versatility as an athlete by finishing fifth in the state shot put competition with a throw of 55 feet, 8 inches.
West recently visited Iowa State, where he was notably impressed by the program. “I was really impressed with Iowa State,” he remarked. “Their facilities are much better than anything I’ve seen. Their recovery equipment is really good and I really liked Kris Kracht, the mental strength coach. I think that probably gives them an advantage over all the other teams on my list.” He also appreciated the living arrangements for freshmen and noted the Cyclones’ commitment to providing quality food for their athletes.
This weekend, West will have the opportunity to explore Utah’s facilities. “I’m looking forward to seeing Utah,” he stated. “I’ve played in Rice Eccles Stadium six times (high school playoffs) but haven’t really seen the rest of their facilities so looking forward to that. Coach (Colton) Swann just offered last weekend and that meant a lot to get recognized by the hometown team.” With a decision anticipated next week, West’s recruitment continues to heat up as he weighs his options.
