Jacksonville State Baseball Faces Elimination in Hattiesburg Regional

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Jacksonville State's baseball team finds itself in a challenging position as it aims to advance from the Hattiesburg Regional. The Gamecocks (47-14) suffered a setback on Saturday, losing 8-6 to Little Rock, which has placed them in the losers bracket. They must now secure three victories to progress, starting with an elimination match against Virginia on Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.

Head coach Steve Bieser has yet to announce his pitcher for the upcoming game, stating, "After seeing this club, I got to think about it a little bit. We got a few games ahead of us to win. We got to figure out how we can get off to a good start." Notably, two of the Gamecocks' weekend starters, Steven Cash and Eli Pillsbury, have yet to see action during this NCAA Tournament.

Despite the daunting task ahead, Bieser remains optimistic about his team's pitching capabilities. He expressed confidence in their depth, noting, "I think we got plenty of pitching. We got to execute and we got to pitch well like we pitched all season. We've got plenty of pitching to play three games." He highlighted that Southern Miss, which has already been eliminated, was the only team in the tournament that could rival their pitching strength.

If Jacksonville State manages to defeat Virginia, they will face Little Rock again at 8 p.m. on Sunday, with a potential winner-take-all showdown scheduled for Monday if they continue their winning streak.
