Jacoby Brissett Misses Final Week of OTAs as Contract Talks Continue

The Arizona Cardinals kicked off the last week of their voluntary offseason activities on Monday, featuring three scheduled practices. However, quarterback Jacoby Brissett was once again absent, as reported by ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. Brissett has not participated in any of the voluntary sessions this offseason, as he is pursuing a revised contract.

Currently, Brissett is set to earn $4.9 million in 2026, which includes $1.5 million in guaranteed money and potential bonuses of up to $510,000 based on game appearances. After starting 12 games last season, where he threw for a career-high 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns, he is positioned as the Cardinals' starting quarterback. Nonetheless, with starting quarterbacks outside of rookie contracts earning at least $19.5 million in 2026, Brissett is seeking a salary adjustment.

Despite his impressive individual statistics, the team struggled significantly during his starts, finishing with a 1-11 record and losing the last nine games, six of which were by double digits. Reports indicate that the Cardinals are open to renegotiating his contract, but the two parties remain "significantly" apart in their discussions.

Mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 8-10, and Brissett risks incurring fines if he does not attend. In his absence, Gardner Minshew, who has 47 career starts, has taken the lead in first-team practices, while rookie Carson Beck, selected in the third round, has been receiving additional reps. This ongoing situation continues to loom over the Cardinals as they prepare for the upcoming season.
