Jordan Spieth Reflects on Challenging PGA Tour Season
Jordan Spieth has openly acknowledged that this PGA Tour season has presented him with significant difficulties, particularly when it comes to navigating the various courses. His recent performance at the Memorial Tournament exemplified this struggle, as the 32-year-old failed to make the cut after a disappointing 79 on Friday at Muirfield Village.
Despite achieving eight finishes within the top 25, Spieth has yet to crack the top 10 this season, with his best results being tied for 11th place at both the Bay Hill and Valspar Championships. This inconsistency has left fans questioning the trajectory of the three-time major champion’s career.
In a conversation with CBS Sports about his preparation for the upcoming majors, particularly the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, Spieth remarked, “No, frankly we have played probably 12 US Opens this year, it has felt like. The courses have been brutally hard this season. It’s kind of nice.” He elaborated on how having prior experience at Shinnecock helps him feel more prepared, noting that it reduces the competition he faces.
Spieth's comments also touched on the specific challenges of the US Open, indicating that the courses demand greater precision and skill, especially around the greens. As he gears up for this major, he hopes that the tough conditions he has faced this season will serve him well.
Interestingly, although Spieth won the US Open in 2015 at Chambers Bay, his record in this tournament since then has been less than stellar, with that victory being his only top 10 finish. He has missed the cut four times, including this year, and did not advance to the weekend when the event was last held at Shinnecock. With the season progressing, he aims to leverage his experiences to improve his performance in the upcoming events.
