José Mourinho Departs Benfica to Rejoin Real Madrid

José Mourinho has officially left his position as head coach of SL Benfica, with the Portuguese club announcing his departure on Thursday. This move comes as Real Madrid prepares to activate the manager’s release clause, valued at €15 million. Although Real Madrid has yet to publicly confirm the hiring, it is widely anticipated and viewed as a final formality.

Mourinho's return to the Santiago Bernabéu marks his second tenure at the club, following his first stint, which ended in 2013. His comeback is particularly significant for Real Madrid, which has faced two seasons without major titles, prompting a need for change in leadership.

The experienced coach is poised to sign a three-year deal, with immediate focus on strengthening the team’s defensive lineup. During his presidential campaign, Florentino Pérez emphasized the need for defensive reinforcements, mentioning players like Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries as potential targets. Additionally, Real Madrid is considering several notable candidates for the left-back position as they aim to bolster their back line.
