JT Poston Claims Victory at Rain-Interrupted Memorial Tournament, Tommy Fleetwood Finishes Fourth
In a dramatic conclusion to the rain-impacted Memorial Tournament, Tommy Fleetwood fell short of victory, finishing in fourth place as JT Poston emerged as the champion. Fleetwood had entered the final stretch with a one-shot lead, but despite his efforts, he could not maintain his advantage.
The third round at Muirfield Village resumed on Sunday morning after weather delays, and Poston quickly erased his four-stroke deficit. An impressive eagle at the 15th hole temporarily put Fleetwood ahead, but a subsequent bogey on the 17th hole proved costly. Ultimately, both Poston and Ryan Gerard finished with scores of 12 under par, two strokes clear of Fleetwood.
All eyes were initially on prominent players like Masters champion Rory McIlroy and world number one Scottie Scheffler, who aimed to win the tournament for a third consecutive year. However, both golfers finished tied for 12th place, concluding their rounds at four under par.
Play was suspended on Saturday while Poston and Gerard were at nine under on the sixth green. Following the resumption, Poston improved his score to 12 under after round three, while Fleetwood, along with Wyndham Clark, ended up in the top five at six under.
McIlroy began his final round strong with three consecutive birdies, but the tide turned as Poston remained consistent. With a birdie on the ninth hole, Sam Burns increased the pressure, leading to a four-way tie at the top until Fleetwood's eagle temporarily shifted the momentum. However, a bogey on the 17th hole saw him finish with a 68, concluding at 10 under.
In a thrilling playoff on the 18th hole, Poston and Gerard both made par on their first attempt, but Poston sealed his victory with a decisive birdie after Gerard faltered, marking his first win of the 2026 season.
