Kenton Ridge Softball Eyes Historical State Championship

As Kenton Ridge gears up for the Division IV state semifinals, all eyes are on standout player Brenna Fyffe, who is poised to make history. The team will face off against their opponents at Mogagore Field in Akron's Firestone Stadium at 3 p.m. on June 5, aiming for their second consecutive state championship. With their current impressive record, they have the chance to become only the second team in state history to secure back-to-back undefeated championship seasons.

Fyffe's recent performance has been nothing short of extraordinary. During the regional tournament, she was intentionally walked in her seventh at-bat, a testament to her formidable presence at the plate, which helped Kenton Ridge secure a 7-0 lead. Over the course of the regionals, she hit three home runs, bringing her season total to 23 and placing her on the verge of breaking the state record for most home runs in a season. With just two more, she would tie the record of 25 held by Abigail Herren.

In addition to her home run chase, Fyffe has already set a state record for career RBIs, surpassing the previous mark of 223. As she enters Friday’s game, she boasts 212 runs scored, just two shy of tying the career record of 214, set by Taylor Kline in 2014. Kenton Ridge head coach Sarah Schalnat praised Fyffe's dedication, noting her commitment to practice beyond regular hours, which has greatly contributed to her success.

Notably, Kenton Ridge has already established a single-season team record with 68 home runs, and the momentum is palpable. The team is also pursuing several other records, including the potential for pitcher Ivee Rastatter to secure her 60th win, positioning her close to the state record for consecutive wins.

Despite the accolades, Fyffe remains focused on team success. "We go out and we want to win. And we go out and we're like, teams have to beat us," she said. As Kenton Ridge prepares for this pivotal match, the excitement builds, with fans eager to witness what could be a historic run for the team.
