Kevin Love Credits Kurt Rambis for Encouraging His Three-Point Shooting

Kevin Love, a prominent figure in the NBA, shared insights about his early career and the influential role of former Minnesota Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis in his development as a shooter. Love recounted how, when he first entered the league, Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman expressed skepticism regarding his ability to shoot from beyond the arc. “I just don’t see you shooting 3s right now,” Love recalled Wittman saying. “Maybe at some point you’ll step out and take a couple, but that’s not why we brought you here.”

It wasn't until his third season that Rambis encouraged Love to embrace the three-point shot as part of his game. “Kurt Rambis really pushed me into shooting 3s and kind of saw where the game was evolving and leading to,” Love noted. This pivotal change in approach allowed him to expand his skills on the court.

Love explained that his initial foray into three-point shooting primarily involved making trail threes before transitioning to pick-and-pop plays. He stated, “Outside of Dirk, I would like to think I was one of those first guys that ended up stretching the floor in a major way.” His evolution into a three-point threat played a significant role in shaping modern basketball strategies.
