There is a new veteran quarterback set to hit the free-agent market this offseason and that possibly sets the stage for a battle between the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Arizona Cardinals have informed Kyler Murray that they plan to release him at the start of the new league year.

This means Murray will now be available in free agency.

"Sources: Cardinals have informed QB Kyler Murray that they intend to release him on the first day of the league year next Wednesday, barring a trade between now and then," Schefter reported.

We mention the Steelers, Vikings and Jets because all three teams have a need for a veteran quarterback and could have interest in Murray, especially now that he doesn't have to be traded for.

In Pittsburgh, the Steelers still don't know what Aaron Rodgers will do, and if he does decide to retire or play elsewhere, the cupboard will be bare at quarterback, with Will Howard and Mason Rudolph under contract.

In Minnesota, the Vikings are looking for a veteran signal-caller to at least push J.J. McCarthy, or they could simply replace the 2024 first-round pick entirely.

There is a real possibility Minnesota could make a play for Murray. ESPN's Kevin Seifert reports that Murray is "at or near the top of the Vikings' QB wish list."

As for the Jets, they also need a quarterback after the failed Justin Fields experiment, which will likely lead to the team releasing him.

The Jets have been linked to possible interest in Murray, with NBC Sports' Matthew Berry hearing New York is a potential landing spot for him.

We ultimately think Murray will land with the Vikings.

After all, they have the best team of the three, a fairly clear path to a starting job and, a head coach who has revived the career of a down-and-out quarterback before.
