Lady Panthers Clinch Sectional Championship with Dominant Performance
Knightstown's May Hershberger delivered an impressive pitching performance in the sectional championship match against North Decatur, throwing four innings without allowing a hit. Despite a couple of singles from the Lady Chargers in the fifth inning, the Lady Panthers emerged victorious with a commanding 12-0 win at Tri.
During the game, Hershberger pitched a total of 5.0 innings, giving up only two singles and one walk while striking out four batters. Knightstown jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning, followed by two more in the second, and then four runs each in the third and fourth innings.
In the fifth inning, North's Ella Wilson started with a single, and Haylee Schoettmer followed with another single. However, Hershberger quickly closed out the inning by retiring the next two batters, ensuring the Lady Panthers maintained their lead. Knightstown's offensive performance included seven hits and eight walks, capitalizing on four errors committed by North.
Hershberger contributed significantly to the offense with a double and a triple, adding an RBI to her tally. Dylann Fausnaugh also had a noteworthy game, hitting a single and driving in two runs, while Grace Behny recorded a single and an RBI. Additionally, Lanee Swindell, Jaycie Cole, and Lyla Trigg each had a single.
For North, Brooklyn White pitched for 2.0 innings, giving up three earned runs along with four hits and four walks, striking out one batter. Brynlee Green also pitched for 2.0 innings, allowing three hits and four walks.
With this win, Knightstown, now holding a record of 17-7, is set to face the Lady Indians of Milan, who have a remarkable 29-4 record, in the upcoming regional round.
