Scottie Scheffler begins the final round of the PGA Championship five shots adrift of the leader, Alex Smalley.

Scheffler is also two back of Rory McIlroy and three behind the likes of Jon Rahm and Ludvig Aberg.

The world number one followed his opening-round 67 at the PGA Championship with two 71s.

Scottie Scheffler‘s putter has been really cold at the PGA Championship, and he is ranked 64th in strokes gained on the greens this week.

Scheffler believes he can still win the PGA, but admitted he will have to putt a lot better at Aronimink on Sunday.

Does Dame Laura Davies believe in the world number one’s chances, though?

Scheffler will know full well that he has to shoot an incredibly low number on Sunday, if he is to have any chance of lifting the Wanamaker trophy for the second year in a row.

Davies responded when asked whether Scheffler can still win the PGA, despite being five adrift of the leader heading into the final round.

Well, he most certainly is for me because you’ve got to ask yourself, do you think Alex Smalley is going to win today? Personally, I say no, she said.

I think John Rahm is the leader, in my mind. You got him and Ludvig at four-under.

So, in effect, if you take that mentality, he’s only three behind, and we all know what Scottie Scheffler can do.

If he putts well today, he is a major contender. If he putts the way he’s putted all week, then I don’t think so.

But for me, it’s just those three shots back.

Davies was also asked whether she thinks McIlroy has a chance of winning on Sunday.

Oh, yeah, without a doubt, he’s played the best, she replied.

So, obviously, he had his very poor round on day one, but since then, he’s seven-under par. No one’s better than that.

So, I think Rory, and he tends to normally get one of his lowest rounds on Sundays, which is obviously a trait of the greats.

I think he’ll probably –– I’d be surprised if he doesn’t shoot 65 or 66 today.

Now, whether that’s good enough, we’ll have to wait and see, but I think that’s the kind of number he might have in mind, and he knows it’s well within his capabilities.

If McIlroy does manage to shoot a 65 today, there’s every chance he will win the PGA Championship.

Meanwhile, Scheffler will probably have to shoot a lower score, perhaps something like a 64 or 63.

Whatever happens, the final round of the PGA Championship should provide great entertainment for everyone watching.
