Lawsuit Highlights Severe Human Rights Violations at Texas Immigration Facility

A groundbreaking lawsuit has been launched against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) concerning the largest immigration detention center in the United States, located at Camp East Montana in Texas. Filed on Saturday, the class-action complaint claims that the facility’s conditions are not only "dire" but also represent a significant breach of the human and constitutional rights of detainees.

The suit is backed by several legal organizations and identifies four individuals as plaintiffs, representing all current and future detainees at the facility. The allegations highlight a range of serious issues, including “abhorrent medical and mental health care,” “inappropriate use of force,” and the “indiscriminate use of solitary confinement.”

Furthermore, the complaint details the provision of “terrible, rotten, spoiled and inadequate” food, alongside reports of disease outbreaks and unsanitary living conditions. Additionally, detainees have reportedly faced “sexual harassment by guards,” raising alarming concerns about the treatment of individuals held within the facility.

This lawsuit underscores the growing scrutiny over ICE’s practices, as advocates push for reforms in the treatment of immigrants within the detention system.
