LeBron James Critiques San Antonio's Appeal on Podcast

LeBron James stirred up some controversy recently with remarks about San Antonio, following earlier jabs at Memphis. During an episode of his podcast “Mind the Game” alongside Steve Nash, James discussed the New York Knicks' playoff performance against the Spurs, specifically their early victories that were followed by a loss in Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.

James elaborated on his view of San Antonio, describing it as a dull city. “I mean, San Antonio, we focus on basketball,” he asserted. “You ain’t doing s–t in San Antonio. Nothing at all. Nothing. And I mean nothing.” According to Ryan Anderson from the California Post, James likened the city to a retreat focused solely on the game, devoid of glamour and nightlife.

He even dismissed Nash's attempt to defend the city’s popular River Walk, stating, “Hell no. You get on a River Walk, f— around and fall in the water.” Notably, James has faced the Spurs in two NBA Finals during his career before his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, although he did secure a championship against them in 2013 with the Miami Heat.

These comments come on the heels of James's earlier criticism of Memphis, where he expressed discontent with the hotel accommodations for visiting teams. “I’m 41 years old and there’s 2 cities I don’t like playing in, Milwaukee and Memphis,” he had remarked, clarifying that it was not the people of Memphis he disliked, but rather the Hyatt Centric hotel.

James has reiterated that his words often attract undue attention, stating, “Everything I say and do is overblown.” He emphasized that his grievances are not with the cities themselves, but rather specific aspects of his experiences there.
