Lions Consider Parting Ways with Former First-Round Pick Ahead of 2026 Season

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report recently suggested that the Lions should consider trading Arnold before the upcoming 2026 season. "Terrion Arnold enters a crucial third season after two inconsistent years. He's yet to play up to first-round expectations," Moton noted.

Arnold's performance has raised concerns, particularly after he allowed a passer rating of 101.5 last year and missed nine games due to injuries. While the Lions have opted to re-sign Rock Ya-Sin, who can serve as a short-term starter, Arnold's inconsistent play and lackluster 52.6 overall Pro Football Focus grade—ranking 97th out of 114 qualified corners—have led to speculation about his future with the team.

Trading Arnold now might yield a favorable return, given his potential as a former first-round talent. Several teams could be interested in acquiring him, especially with the Lions possessing other capable cornerbacks like Rock Ya-Sin, Roger McCreary, and D.J. Reed. However, it seems more likely that the Lions will grant Arnold one final chance to prove himself, as his first-round status indicates he has the capability to bolster the team's secondary.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the Lions face a challenging landscape in one of the NFL's most competitive conferences. With teams like the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears coming off playoff runs, and the Minnesota Vikings aiming for a resurgence, the road back to the playoffs will be steep.
