Despite missing out on a spot in Lionel Scaloni’s FIFA World Cup squad, Varela is maintaining a focus on his current club. "I'm calm and 100% focused here in Porto," he stated in a recent interview, adding that his agent is handling any transfer discussions. Meanwhile, Porto is reportedly looking to sign Caleb Yirenkyi from FC Nordsjaelland, another player on Liverpool's radar, which could signal a potential departure for Varela.

Varela extended his contract with Porto last year, which now runs until 2030, and includes a €75 million release clause. However, negotiations with interested clubs may lead to a reduction in that asking price.
