Lobos Secure Key Commitments from Elite High School Players
The University of New Mexico Lobos are making significant strides in their recruiting efforts for the class of 2027, recently adding three promising high school athletes to their roster. This week marked a pivotal moment for the program, highlighted by the commitment of a standout linebacker from a prestigious high school football program.
Linebacker DJ Clanton, measuring 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 210 pounds, has officially joined the Lobos, turning down offers from several competitive programs including Arizona State and Utah. Clanton, who recorded 63 tackles with six tackles for loss during his last season at Mater Dei High School in California, expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “I am honored to be a part of the Lobo family!” He is recognized as a three-star recruit and is the first linebacker in this recruiting class to commit to UNM.
In addition to Clanton, tight end Collin Benninger has also pledged to the Lobos. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 225 pounds, Benninger made his decision following a visit to UNM. He brings a solid record from Central Catholic High School, where he caught 16 passes for 347 yards and scored four touchdowns last fall. He expressed his gratitude on social media, noting he feels “beyond blessed” to join the team.
Defensive end Zade Brown is the third recent addition to the Lobos, committing after a successful official visit. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound athlete recorded 60 tackles, with 12.5 tackles for loss at Valley Vista High School in Arizona. Brown thanked his support system in a social media post, saying, “I want to thank God, my family, coaches, and teammates for supporting and helping me achieve my goals.”
This week, the Lobos also hosted several undecided recruits, showcasing their commitment to building a strong team. Among them were running back Hershul Olloway Jr. and defensive lineman Gunner Edwards, both of whom have impressive high school resumes. As the recruiting season intensifies, the Lobos are positioning themselves to enhance their future roster significantly.
