LOCAL ROUNDUP: Hoopeston Area softball gets eliminated in regionals

RANTOUL — After a move of venue and time on Monday, the Hoopeston Area softball team faced Iroquois West in an IHSA Class 1A regional game.

The Cornjerkers scored four runs in the first inning, but the Raiders scored five in the bottom of the inning and would go on to win 18-8.

Addyson Kelnhofer had two doubles and four RBIs for Hoopeston Area, while Chloe Miller, Camilla Linder and Melina Vogel each had one RBI and Kennedy Wallace had two hits.

The Cornjerkers end the season at 2-20.

Cerro Gordo/Bement 17, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 2

DECATUR — The Buffaloes scored the first run in Monday's IHSA Class 1A regional game, but Cerro Gordo-Bement was able to win the game in four innings.

Annistyn Tovey had an RBI for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, while Jordan Silvey had a hit and Kaydence Kraus scored both runs.

The Buffaloes end the season at 4-19.

Oakwood/Schlarman 1, Centennial 0

OAKWOOD — Jada Finley drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Comets the win in Saturday's regular season finale.

Caydence Vermillion had 13 strikeouts on the mound, while Irene Rangel had two hits for Oakwood/Schlarman Academy, who will start playoff action today against Monticello.

South Newton 6, Fountain Central 3

KENTLAND, Ind. — The Mustangs had 12 hits, but could not get the win on the road on Monday,

Keylee Stonebreaker had three hits and an RBI for Fountain Central, while Jacquelynn Weber had two hits and an RBI, Patience Bixler had an RBI and had eight strikeouts on the mound and Marion Massey had two hits.

PREP BASEBALL

Covington 1-1 vs. S. Vermilion

COVINGTON, Ind. — The Trojans beat the Wildcats 9-6 in the first game, but lost 6-5 in the second on Saturday.

Kaden Smith and Colton Pettit each had two RBIs for Covington in the first game, while Creux Rieman had two hits and one RBI and Davyn Green, Nash Martin and Kyler Zarn each had one RBI.

Easton Alexander had two RBIs in the second game, while Smith had two hits and an RBI, while Pettit and Kyven Hill each had one RBI and Martin had two hits.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

Statzer goes to Terre Haute

CAYUGA, Ind. — North Vermillion girls basketball coach Wade Statzer had taken the girls basketball coaching job at Terre Haute North.

Statzer was 50-48 in his four years with the Falcons.

PREP BOYS TRACK

BHRA second at St. Teresa

DECATUR — The Blue Devils warmed up for sectionals on Friday by tying for second at the Decatur St. Teresa Boys Invitational.

The 400 relay team of Dylan Davis, Mason Cunningham, Isaac Cahill and Gavin High won in 42.33 seconds, while the same four took second in the 800 (1:29.76). The 1,600 team of Dylan Farr, Darin Farr, Hunter Black and Cunningham was fourth (3:31) and the 3,200 team of Devin Stroud, Dylan Farr, Micah Tidwell and Payton Wallace was fourth (8:29.86).

Kyler Perez was second in the 300 hurdles (41.17), while High was third in the 200 (23.14) and Conner Powell was third in the shot put (15.54m).

Salt Fork was 15th with Eli Reffett taking third in the 300 (41.69) and fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.49) and Maddax Stine taking third in the discus (47.54m) and fifth in the shot put (15.10m).

Oakwood was 17th with Lucas Tyas taking second in the 400 (50.11).

Oakwood and Salt Fork will travel to BHRA on Thursday for an IHSA Class 1A sectional.

JUNIOR HIGH TRACK

Bis-Henn takes third at state

EAST PEORIA — The Blue Devils ended up third at the IHSA Class 7-2A state meet over the weekend at the EastSide Centre.

Ethan Jiles won the 100 (12.33) and 200 (24.65) for Bismarck-Henning, while Madox Dieu took second in the shot put (12.62m) and discus (36.96m).

The only other local to finish in the top four was Sayer Hinchman for Oakwood Grade School, who ended up fourth in the long jump (5.36m).

The Bis-Henn girls team was sixth in 7-2A as Isabel Milliken took second in the shot put (8.35m) and discus (24.45m) and 1600 sprint medley team of Ella Thatcher, RaeAnn Williams, Jaycelin Ingram and Vivian Crawley took fourth (4:46).

In Class 7-1A boys, Rossville-Alvin's Greyson Daniel took fourth in the shot put (11.51m), while Schlarman Academy's Yahir Guerrero took fifth in the 800 (2:19.62). In Class 7-1A girls, Schlarman's Ava Kuemmerle was second in the 100 hurdles (17.9).

In Class 8-1A, the Schlarman Academy boys team took sixth led by the 1,600 sprint medley team of Elijah Brown, Kyle Moore, Jaylen Chirayil and Vicente Guerrero, who won the event in 4:06.89. Chirayil took third in the 800 (2:12) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:03) and Brown was fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.33).

In Class 8-2A, Cash Kurtenbach took fourth in the discus (41.89m) for Sidell Salt Fork.

Rossville-Alvin was eighth in Girls Class 8-1A, with Hadley Ackerman taking second in discus (29.39m), Cataleya Cordova taking fourth in the 800 (2:29), Aryanna Watson was sixth in the 100 (17.61) and the 800 relay team of Charly Rayfield, Alissa Brown, Cordova and Watson was third in 1:55.

Schlarman was tied for 13th with Parman Kaur taking fourth in the pole vault (2.30m), the 800 relay team of Olivia Miller, Aimar Barber, Tuscany Tucker and Leah Janosik was fourth (1:55) and the 1,600 relay team of Kuemmerle, Barber, Miller and Janosik was fourth (4:28.42).

In Class 8-2A, Sidell Salt Fork's Genevieve Wear won the shot put with a throw of 9.57m. Oakwood's Leah Nicoson was third in the discus (30.09m) and fourth in the shot put (9.15m) while teammate Hayleigh Haughn was third in the shot put (9.27m). The Sidell Salt Fork 800 relay team of Avery Bressner, Emma Beauvois, Adalynn Heckerson, Lily Trompeter was fifth (1:55.19).

The 3A and 4A track meets will take place this weekend at the EastSide Centre.
