Logan and Yorktown Set for High-Stakes Regional Softball Clash

In a highly anticipated regional showdown, the No. 2 ranked Logansport Berries are set to face off against the top-ranked Yorktown Tigers in a Class 3A softball game this evening. The matchup will take place at the Yorktown Sports Complex, located at 200 S County Road 600 W, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Fans can catch the action live on WSAL 1230 AM/94.9 FM.

Yorktown enters the contest with an impressive record of 25 wins and just 2 losses, while Logansport boasts an even stronger mark of 26-1. In the final coaches poll, Yorktown was ranked first, and Logansport second. According to MaxPreps Computer Rankings, Logansport holds the No. 2 position behind New Palestine, while Yorktown is rated No. 3 in the Class 3A standings. When considering all classes statewide, Logansport is ranked sixth and Yorktown tenth.

Both teams are known for their potent offenses, with Yorktown averaging 9.7 runs per game compared to Logansport's 8.3. However, given the elite pitching talent on display, runs may be hard to come by. Logansport's ace, junior right-hander Brooklynn Hagerty, is a Texas recruit with an undefeated record of 16-0 and a remarkable 0.71 ERA. Over 119 innings, she has recorded 253 strikeouts while yielding just 35 hits and 9 walks.

On the other side, Yorktown counters with sophomore right-hander Olivia Jones, who is 20-2 with a 0.61 ERA. Jones has notched 242 strikeouts in 115.1 innings, allowing 56 hits and 30 walks. Both pitchers average an impressive 2.1 strikeouts per inning, indicating a fierce battle on the mound.

While the pitching is expected to dominate the game, both teams have the capability to score. Jones also contributes offensively, boasting a .434 batting average with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs. Logansport's lineup features several key players, including senior shortstop Aracyn Good and junior catcher Bella Nicoles, who have been instrumental in their success this season.

Historically, Logansport has been a Class 4A school but transitioned to Class 3A last year due to IHSAA enrollment changes. Despite having won a Class 4A sectional title in the past, they have yet to claim a regional title. In contrast, Yorktown, located near Muncie, has a strong tradition in Class 3A with 11 sectional titles and six regional championships since 2009. The winner of tonight's match will advance to the Twin Lakes Semi-State on Saturday.
