Logansport Football Star RJ Clem Sees Surge in College Offers

This spring has marked a significant turning point in RJ Clem's football recruitment. The Logansport junior, who towers at 6 feet 7 inches and weighs 265 pounds, boasts an impressive 84-inch wingspan, making him an attractive prospect for colleges looking for offensive tackles.

In addition to his football prowess, Clem is a state finalist in discus and is aiming to excel in both throwing events next year in track and field. He also stands out as one of the top basketball players in his region. Currently, Clem has received 16 Division-I offers to play football.

Reflecting on his recruitment journey, Clem shared, “I went to that Notre Dame Camp last year and then got a nice little writeup and I didn’t hear really anything all summer and all fall.” His first offer came from Yale in early January, which he described as a shocking moment. Following a quieter period, his recruitment intensified around Spring Break with college coaches visiting him at Logansport High School.

So far, Clem's offers have come from prestigious institutions including Harvard, Penn, and Princeton, alongside other programs such as Michigan State and Miami of Ohio. With a busy summer ahead, he is participating in various workouts and scrimmages while also preparing for the IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Underclass Showcase.

As he plans visits to more schools, including Michigan State and Wake Forest, he acknowledges the challenges of scheduling around his commitments. “There’s been a few schools that I’m not gonna be able to visit, but we’re trying to see as many new places as possible,” he stated.

Clem aims to finalize his decision by the end of July, expressing a desire to avoid distractions during the football season. “I was thinking before the season if possible,” he mentioned, while noting that he has yet to favor any specific school. With a 4.3 GPA, he is considering a major in business administration, shifting from his initial interest in engineering due to the demands of Division-I football.
