Logansport's Alette Woodhouse Surprised by State Finals Qualification
Alette Woodhouse, a standout sophomore from Logansport, has made remarkable progress in both track and cross country this year, shattering school records in each discipline. Her impressive performance has earned her a spot in the IHSAA State Finals, marking her first appearance at this prestigious event. She will compete in the 1600-meter race at North Central High School in Indianapolis this Friday.
Woodhouse's journey to the state meet was unanticipated. After finishing seventh at the Lafayette Jeff Regional, she believed her season had come to an end, as only the top three runners automatically qualified. “I would say going into regionals, I had highly anticipated that it would be my last event of the season,” she shared. “The callback was nothing I had ever planned.” She was thrilled to achieve a personal record of 5:13.33 and enjoyed supporting her teammates during the competition.
Building on a strong freshman year, Woodhouse has elevated her performance this season, setting records in the 800 and 3200-meter events in track, in addition to breaking the 5K cross country record last fall. “I believe throughout the past year I’ve grown more into my running career... my team’s encouragement has meant so much to me,” she reflected, emphasizing the support she received from her teammates and Coach Morrill, who has been instrumental in her development as an athlete.
As she prepares for the state finals, Woodhouse is excited for the experience. “Getting the callback to go to state was such an exciting moment for me,” she expressed. “I hope to just take it as a learning experience and just enjoy the moment.” The 1600-meter race is set to begin at 6:35 p.m., and Woodhouse is determined to compete to the best of her ability, representing her team’s success this season.
