The Boston Bruins were forced to part ways with longtime center Charlie Coyle during the failed 2024-25 season. Coyle was just one member of the veteran crew that was shipped out of Boston (no pun intended).

He was sent to the Stanley Cup-contending Colorado Avalanche, but was not re-signed after the team made a first-round exit following a tough Game 7 loss to the Dallas Stars.

Coyle found a new home with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he played in all 82 games this season. He finished with 58 points on the season, just one shy of 2023 third overall draft pick Adam Fantilli. Coyle led the team in faceoff wins and power play goals.

His Blue Jackets were ultimately on the outside looking in of the playoff bracket, but Coyle made enough of an impression to earn a lofty extension.

The new $6 million AAV deal is a raise of $750,000 from the now-expired six-year, $31.5 million deal that Boston signed him to in 2020.
