Lu Dort Expresses Desire to Continue with Oklahoma City Thunder
Lu Dort's future with the Oklahoma City Thunder is currently in a state of flux, as he holds a $17 million team option for the 2026-27 season that the franchise might decline to create additional salary cap flexibility.
Despite the uncertainty, Dort has made his intentions clear, stating that he wishes to remain with the Thunder. "That’s a conversation that’s going to happen. It hasn’t happened yet, obviously, we just lost last night. But I have a lot of trust in this organization. I’m really grateful for all the stuff that [Thunder GM Sam Presti] did for me to this point, and obviously, I want to stay here," he expressed. "This organization and this city really shaped me as a person and as a player, so the conversation is going to happen. Obviously, I want to stay here. This is like a home to me."
Having played his entire professional career with Oklahoma City, Dort's attachment to the team is understandable. Should the Thunder choose to decline his option, it doesn't necessarily mark the end of his tenure; he could still re-sign with the team during free agency. However, other franchises may be interested in offering him a more lucrative deal, placing Dort in a challenging position.
The Thunder have a deadline of June 29 to decide on Dort's option for the upcoming season, a move that could significantly impact his career trajectory.
