Mariners Promote Weston Wilson, Designate Miles Mastrobuoni for Assignment

BALTIMORE, MD - The Seattle Mariners have made a roster change, promoting infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson from Triple-A Tacoma while designating Miles Mastrobuoni for assignment. This decision comes shortly after Wilson joined the Mariners on a minor-league deal just five days ago, on June 14.

Wilson, who has seen major league action since 2023, played only two games with the Tacoma Rainiers before his call-up. His most notable experience in the big leagues occurred in 2025 with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he participated in over 50 games. Like Mastrobuoni, Wilson is a versatile player capable of filling multiple positions, primarily third base and left field, but he brings a right-handed batting option to the roster.

The Mariners' lineup will benefit from Wilson’s addition as they face a series against the Boston Red Sox, who are set to start three left-handed pitchers. This strategic move allows J.P. Crawford to take a breather while recovering from an injury.

Mastrobuoni’s departure is unfortunate, especially considering his recent contributions in a key role during the Mariners' series win. Manager Dan Wilson and teammates acknowledged the importance of players like Mastrobuoni, who stepped up in challenging circumstances and made significant plays despite not being in his primary position.

As the team continues to navigate injuries, Weston Wilson will be expected to uphold the tradition of role players stepping up to help secure victories. His arrival is another chapter in the Mariners' ongoing effort to manage their roster effectively amidst a challenging season.
